About David Mears – Timeless Music for Special Occasions in Essex

I’ve been passionate about performing for as long as I can remember. My dad was a singer with a dance-hall band called The Skyliners and home was always filled with the sounds of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, James Last and Glenn Miller.

My first steps into performing began back in the 1980s. I picked up the drums at school — thanks to a spontaneous moment when my music teacher asked, “Would anyone like to learn to play the drums?” — and I’ve never looked back. I also joined a Chelmsford amateur dramatic group called Springers, where I discovered my love of singing and being on stage.

In 1987 I formed a 50s and 60s covers band called The Skyliners – I was lead singer and later, also became our rhythm guitarist. We supported acts such as Brian Poole and the Electrics and Boney M, performed regularly at The Circus Tavern, and even took to the main stage at the Hylands Park Spectacular in Chelmsford. Those years gave me a deep appreciation for the energy of live performance and the joy of connecting with an audience.

By the late 1990s, I decided to explore life as a solo performer. From 1999 through to 2016, I sang at clubs, pubs, weddings and private parties across Essex, developing what has now become my signature swing show: Timeless Music for Special Occasions.

My voice has often been described as smooth and classic — ideal for easy-listening moments that bring a touch of class and nostalgia to any event. My biggest influences include swing greats like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé and even Robbie Williams (Swing When You’re Winning is a favourite).

Local to Essex

I was born in Chelmsford and now live in Braintree, performing throughout Witham, Maldon, Colchester, and across Essex. Although I’m not currently partnered with local venues, I’m always keen to collaborate with Essex-based event suppliers, restaurants and wedding organisers who share my passion for creating unforgettable occasions.
